Although not a new ingredient, right now skincare with retinol is getting the most buzz. The Pixi Skintreats Retinol Collection uses time-released retinol, which means that even sensitive skin types can get the benefit from this proven anti-aging player.
The Pixi Skintreats Retinol range includes a Cleanser, Tonic, Eye Cream, Overnight Smoothing Night Oil and Lotion. In addition to Vitamin A (retinol), these products have antioxidants, ceramindes, botanicals and more, to help nourish, replenish and minimize the signs of aging.
The Pixi Skintreats Retinol products I tried include:
Retinol Tonic, which is applied after cleansing. In addition to Retinol and Jasmine Flower, this tonic/toner has antioxidants and botanicals. You can smell the Rosemary Leaf Water, which has an invigorating scent to it. I didn’t have any irritation with use. Note: If you’re a fan of the Glow Tonic, I would pick either one and stick to it, but don’t use them both concurrently (the Glycolic Acid plus retinol could cause irritation).
If you’ve had sensitivity issues with other retinols, you might find success with the Overnight Retinol Smoothing Night Oil. This oil is designed to be used after cleansing and toning, and before a moisturizer. Warm a few drops in your hands and then gently press onto skin. This is a lovely product for those with normal or normal to dry skin types, but it was a bit heavy for my combination skin (I never quite felt like it had absorbed completely into my skin, and adding a moisturizer on top didn’t help). The formula includes retinol for smoothing, peptides for firming and ceramides for moisture. A facial oil is a wonderful way to incorporate retinol, depending on your skin type. I wish I would have had better luck with it.
My favorite product of the three that I tried is the Pixi Skintreats Retinol Eye Cream. This eye cream firms, smoothes and improves elasticity in the delicate eye area. I didn’t experience any irritation, sensitivity or dryness from using. It absorbs quickly and doesn’t leave a residue or interfere with makeup. I highly recommend this eye cream…I’ve continued to use it post-testing period, and I’ll definitely re-buy!
As always, when using a product with retinol in it, make sure you’re using a daily sunscreen.
