Giorgio Armani · Power Fabric Foundation & Eye Tints

It’s been a while since I reviewed anything from Giorgio Armani, so when these products came in, my curiosity was piqued. It’s no secret that I’m all about luxury beauty and as my experience with this brand has always been quite positive, I had high hopes for this selection. Good to know that my instincts are still bang-on.

Power Fabric Longwear High Cover Foundation (CAN $78.00/each) | Housed in a simple yet elegant frosted glass bottle, this foundation comes in a good range of colours (+/- 19 shades, with availability dependant on the retailer). Created to be both long lasting (wear time is stated as 18 hours, although I’m not about to wear any makeup for that length of time, but it’s still good to know) and stated to give full coverage, the texture has a nice fluidity to it that’s neither too thick nor runny, spreading easily along the skin without oxidizing, caking, or flaking. Inspired by the House’s textile expertise, the high pigment formula contains the same time-release oil science of their Maestro range: providing a comfortable feel and “second-skin” effect throughout wear.

To be honest, when it comes to foundation my tastes lean towards light to light-medium coverage, primarily because I don’t like the feel of anything heavy on my skin and full-coverage is not the most flattering finish as one ages. That said, I was pleasantly surprised with how lightweight Power Fabric actually feels once applied and as to the finish, by going in with a small amount and a light hand, I was able to get the coverage I prefer. Another option it so cut (ie: dilute) this with a bit of moisturizer or a luminous primer to thin it out as well, if desired.

  • 5 – light neutral, light-medium complexions

Eye Tint Silk & Chrome (CAN $39.00/each) | There are days when I want to spend hours creating a complex eye makeup look, and then there’s the majority of the time where I’m all about the “swipe-and-go” process; the beauty of these Eye Tints, is that you can use them both lightly and/or hard core. With 14-16 shades available (again, this number is retailer dependant), they are also available in 4 finishes. With a unique liquid-to-cream texture upon initial application, they set like a powder — and once they do set, they’re there for the long haul. That said, I suggest working once eye at a time to avoid the product drying before you have time to blend. The innovative formula boasts a polymer-glycerine blend for a flexible & long wearing hold, while pigment pearls provide a high density yet complex hue. You can sheer these out for a wash of colour, or layer them up for more impact and depth. You can even use them in a primer capacity under powder eyeshadow for a nice pop of colour, and several of these shades can even double as highlighters. Lastly, the spade-shaped flocked applicator works beautifully to deposit the product and the tip can even get into tiny areas, and though you can certainly use brushes for blending out (my suggestion is to stick with synthetic-fibre brushes for the job), using your fingers for application works equally well.

  • 44 Rose Gold – copper rose gold, metallic finish
  • 46 Halo – taupe, metallic finish

I know it’s the season of holiday collections and limited edition ERRYTHANG, but it feels good to review products that are not only permanent within a brand’s line-up, but items we can all reach for. When it comes to foundations, Armani definitely knows a thing or two, having achieved cult status with several ranges. With regards to the Eye Tints, I really like the versatility these offer and am now curious to explore some of the deeper hues. All in all, I’d say these are some interesting offerings from this brand and could be well worth your time to check out.
