Givenchy’s recently launched Red Line Holiday 2019 Collection is an absolute stunner and in my opinion, the most festively packaged out there. Created by the brand’s Creative Director of Makeup, Nicolas Degennes, and true to the brand’s aesthetic, each item has been carefully crafted to form a cohesive group, but let’s be honest; those sparkly cases are reason enough to want it all, wouldn’t you agree?
Last week I was privileged to have my makeup done by none other than Givenchy’s master makeup artist, Kazuhiro “KAZ” Hiruma (pictured above) using several key pieces from the new collection. Apart from creating a look on me that I absolutely LOVED, he happens to also be one of the sweetest and humblest human beings I have come across — not to mention so incredibly talented.
Red Light Palette (CAN $78.00) | Once you’re able to tear your eyes away from the gorgeous case, do open it up and then marvel even more. Inside you’ll find 4 hues shaped in the brand’s iconic 4G pattern: metallic pale gold, vibrant red matte, candy pink matte, and soft peach matte. The texture of the powder is fine milled and applies smoothly, displaying an easy blendability as well. With the exception of the red shade, the other 3 apply softer than they appear in the pan, and considering my obsession with red eyeshadows, I find that the colours of this palette beautifully compliment one another. Staying power over primer is excellent as well, staying true until removed.
N° 10 Sparkling Mousseline Prisme Libre (CAN $76.00) | Bearing the same red sequinned case as the eyeshadow palette, this is the brands cult-fave loose setting powder all jazzed up for the holidays. The exceptionally fine milled powder comes in four shades (pink, blue, ivory, and purple) that are meant to be swirled together for the best effect. What makes this version stand out from the regular lineup, is the whisper light shimmer in the mix — nothing gaudy or readily visible, but just enough to make your skin look like it was dusted by fairies (or close to). Once the protective film is removed, you then close the lid and upend the contents to shake the powder out — at that point you can either go in with a brush or use the included flocked sponge for application. Apart from offering subtle corrective properties, the shades also serve to add a hint of brightness to the skin AND may even help in keeping your natural oils at bay for a little while. Best suited for light to medium skin tones (might come off as too ashy on darker complexions).
Rouge Interdit Holiday 2019 (CAN $45.00/each) | A quick glance through my previous Givenchy posts that feature the brand’s lipsticks, proves how much I love their formula and these two shades are no exception. With the cases given a holiday flair via red along the ribbon & the lettering, the bullet is a work of art as well, covered in tiny 4G’s all along the length — an homage to the first Rouge Couture lipstick created by Hubert de Givenchy which had a case engraved with multiple 4Gs. The texture is buttery, creamy, and everything you might want in a lipstick, providing good coverage from the first swipe and coming to a lush satiny finish. Of course, it wouldn’t be a holiday collection with a red shade, and this one is quite interesting because of how easy it is to wear, being neither too vivid nor muted, as well as nicely balanced between cool & warm. What did surprise me, however, was the other shade — one that I initially dismissed as being rather bland, but it turns out to be a really amazing and flattering tan-rose shade.
- N° 27 Bold Red – warm red, satin finish
- N° 28 Thrilling Brown – soft brown red, satin finish
It must be obvious by now that not only am I a huge fan of this brand, but that the pieces have impressed me as well. The eyeshadow quad might appear imposing but is in fact quite easy to wear (as evidenced by the look created on me), and while I often forget to apply face/setting powder, I feel like the fine shimmer in this holiday version is one that will add a nice dimension to the skin and therefore one I’ll definitely want to reach for. As to the lipsticks, I can’t say enough good things about either and while on the pricey side, they’re worth every penny. One last word: the entire collection is limited edition, so … you know the drill.
